Morning 3/4 day trip sails from 7am to 1pm. The weather was very warm and sunny, but better than being on land. We had a slight breeze from the south with about a 2 foot sea, good sailing weather. Today’s trip is the best 3/4 day trip I can remember in terms of fish being caught, keepers being caught, very few dog fish, some nice cod. There was always fish coming over the rail. The most fish caught were haddock, with some of the largest we have seen this year on the inshore grounds, nice size redfish, some 24-26″ cod, and a fresh sign of more keeper pollock moving in. We had many pollock in the 3-6 lb class today. A 6 lb pollock won the biggest fish honors. My only question is, where did all the cusk go? We haven’t seen one in a couple trips.Only a handful of dogfish. After making a move, we anchored up and the bite died. Then a pod of white sided dolphins swam right around the boat, a great treat for all aboard, some jumping clear out of the water. As soon as the dolphins moved on, the bite picked up again and more legal fish were landed. Really a great trip.

The afternoon 1/2 day trip good for catching fish, but not too good for landing ‘keeper’ fish. The most prevalent species caught today was our friend the Atlantic Codfish. The most codfish we caught on any trip in the last 3 weeks. And they ranged in size from tiny up to 10 lbs. We did land a smattering of legal haddock, a big whiting, and a couple redfish. Still better than being on land and a fun day for those aboard. We arrived at the dock just in time, as heavy weather passed through an hour after tying the lines.
