Saturday’s all day fishing trip was one of the best we’ve seen in the last few weeks. It was a beautiful day on the water, that produced over 350 keepers. We had a full boat, and just about everyone managed to get some fish, with some groups catching big numbers. The pool winner was an 11 lb cusk, but was followed closely by some bigger pollock and 1 big hake. We caught redfish and haddock as well, and the dogfish were pretty mild.

During last weeks fishing, we covered a lot of bottom on the lady sea, as well as many different sets of conditions.

August 8th & 10th, Fishing Report
On Wednesday and Friday, we had  two 3/4 day trips. One open boat, and one private charter that has been coming with us for over 5 years now. Both of the trips produced average catch results. The haddock were biting at a respectable pace, and we didn’t have a dogfish to speak of.

August 11th, Fishing Report
Saturday was our all day trip. It was a long day of trial and error. We started fishing on the northern part of tillies, and made our way south throughout the day. The tide made life difficult with tangles, and the dogfish were constantly present. At the end of the day, we made 8 stops, covering 12 miles of bottom. The numbers of landed fish added up better than expected (130), but were still on the low side of average.

August 12th, Fishing Report
Sunday was another private charter, this one an all day trip. With 35 people on board, and armed with the previouse days knowledge, we headed in a different direction. The difference a day makes. We made our first stop at 10 am, and we stayed there for 3 hours. We didnt see one dogfish all day. The group on board was a large family, a bunch of which didnt even fish. By the end, we boated around 200 haddock, with a sprinkling of cusk, redfish and pollock mixed in. A great day.

Last week was a perfect example of why they call it fishing, and not catching. We don’t get it right all the time. And somedays, the ocean is tough to deal with, in many different ways. That being said, you cant have the great days unless you keep trying. Haddock fishing will shut down in mid September again this year, so the days are running out.

Friday, July 22nd, 2018 Fishing Report

Friday’s all day trip was a little above average despite the tide picking up throughout the day. In the morning we had a great drift going, picking haddock at a steady pace. As the tide and wind both picked up, we had to drop anchor. The lines got sloppy, but there were lots of haddock on the bottom for those that figured out how to get down to them.

Saturday, July 23rd,  3/4 Day Fishing Report

Saturday morning’s 3/4 day trip was a good one, we managed to boat around 80 haddock on the funny hump. We also avoided the dogfish very effectively. We also caught some cusk, redfish and Pollack.

Saturday, July 23rd, July 23rd, Half Day Fishing Report

Saturday’s afternoon half day was the best one of the year yet. Which is a good feeling as a captain, because the last couple were very slow. We actually put 75 keeper haddock on the boat in 2.5 hours of fishing. The low pressure from the weather coming had the fish chewing hard. It was a lot of fun to catch fish like that just 6 miles from Gloucester harbor.

Saturday, July 14th, 2018  – 3/4 Day & Half Day Fishing

Saturday started off with us leaving the dock late due to one of the extremist low tides of the year. However, that didn’t stop us from having a great morning trip that produced over 100 haddock. The tide out on the fishing grounds was also tough to contend with, but when it slowed enough for people to reach the bottom, the fishing was great.

The afternoon half day trip was not nearly as productive as the morning. The tide didn’t slow at all throughout the afternoon, and even with our passenger limit of 40, the tangles were tough to contend with. We caught a couple dozen fish, but the harsh fishing conditions coupled with a lot of first time anglers is not a great recipe for success. Unfortunately every trip can’t be great, that’s why they call it fishing and not catching!

Sunday, July 15th, 2018 –  All Day Fishing

Sunday we had to move the time of the all day trip up an hour to beat the extreme low tide. We thank all of our customers for understanding and making it work. The fishing was average at best. The tide still hurt us offshore, making life difficult. Luckily we didn’t have to deal with too many dogfish, but the bite was still mediocre throughout the whole day. By the end of the day we had over 130 fish on the boat.

Thankfully the tide is going to start slowing down more and more over the week, making the fishing much more manageable. We have trips on the books for the whole week, so give us a call.

Thursday, July 12th, 3/4 Day Fishing Report

Thursday’s 3/4 day trip turned out to be a pretty good one. The weather got nicer as the day went on, going from a 3ft sea to almost nothing. And the fishing followed suite. The first stop was ruined by the tide, which was running hard and made fishing difficult. However, the next 2 stops were very productive, and we ended up boating around 80 nice haddock. We also saw another decent sized Pollack at around 13 lbs.

Wednesday, June 27th

On Wednesday, we had a private charter with a group of repeat customers. The trip went very well, with us boating over 350 haddock, and only having to deal with a couple dozen dogfish throughout the day.

Friday, June 29th

Fridays marathon started out on a very similar track, with us putting 150 fish on the boat in the first 2 stops of the day (with only 15 customers on the trip!). However, as we got into the slack tide, the bite died out significantly. We spent the rest of the day with a slow pick, and a few more dogfish than the previous trip.

Through talking to other captains operating in our area, and my own observations, I have a clear picture of the dogfish moving in for the summer, and where they are. Its a constant battle between trying to avoid them, and still fishing effectively. They are definitely detrimental to our fishing.

Saturday, June 30th

On Saturday, we had another private charter with a group who comes out yearly. We started our day 17 miles offshore, where we caught fish on the earlier trips in the week. This was the wrong place to be. The difference a day makes can be unbelievable sometimes. We made a decision to move closer to home, and by the end of the day, it paid off. Fishing just 12.5 miles from home, we had a great afternoon of fishing. We caught plenty of haddock, saw some pollock over 10 lbs and got into some bigger cusk as well. Everyone went home with fish, and the day was a success.

Sunday, July 1st

Sunday turned out like Saturday afternoon. With a full open boat trip, and against conventional wisdom, we started the day just 12 miles from Gloucester harbor. We switched from anchoring to drifting a couple of times depending on the little bit of breeze that kicked on and off throughout the day. We fished between 200 and 240 ft of water, and managed to boat over 250 fish by the end. Again, the area we fished produced some bigger codfish (released unharmed), cusk, pollock and haddock. The pool winner was a 15 lb pollock.

Saturday, June 23rd, Fishing Report

Saturdays 3/4 and 1/2 day fishing trips were the best we’ve had yet this year. On the 3/4 day, we fished in about 230 feet of water. We caught many haddock, along with some cusk and pollock.  And, the half day produced a surprising amount of haddock in as little as 170 feet of water.

Sunday, June 24th, Fishing Report

On Sunday, we had a great all day fishing trip fishing just 17 miles from the breakwater. We fished on a piece of hard bottom just short of tillies ledge, in about 235 feet of water. The haddock were flying over the rail, with just an hour and a half lull in the middle of the day. Also, the dogfish were pretty quite and not too bad to deal with. We managed to put over 200 haddock on the boat.

SATURDAY, JUNE 16TH, 2018

Saturdays half day and three quarter day fishing trips were very productive this week. The morning trip produced a whole lot of redfish and haddock. We anchored in about 230 feet of water, and had a blast. The half day trip also produced well, with almost 40 keeper haddock caught.

FATHER’S DAY, 2018

Sundays fathers day all day trip was an average day of fishing, with above average conditions. The sun was shinning all day, and the wind was barley blowing. We fished. On southern Jeffries for the day, and started off catching a lot of short haddock in shallow water. Once we moved into deeper water off the edge (180ft), the fish got bigger. All in all, a great dads day trip.

First Week of June, Fishing Report

With the arrival of the first of June, came our first 3/4 and 1/2 day trips of the season. For Friday and Saturday the weather cooperated, allowing us to start trying to get a feel for what’s going on in the inshore fishing world. The 3/4 day trips produced some haddock, redfish and Pollack, with a healthy by-catch of cod fish. The half day trips on Saturday afternoon was a little on the slow side, although we did boat some nice haddock.

Our last all day trip was a good one as well, as has been the case this spring. For the superior fishing, you definitely want to get out on a longer trip.

We also had our first private evening cruise of the year on Saturday night. I know this is a fishing report, but, don’t forget that we can accommodate ANY of your groups needs. Saturday night was a birthday cruise, with a live band and beautiful weather.

Sunday was a wash.  Weather pattern has been keeping us at the dock for the past three Sundays!   AAARRRHHH!

MARATHON FISHING!  

The first marathon trip of the year is in the books. Saturday’s trip turned out to be a good one, with the fish count in the low 300’s. We only allow up to 30 people on our limited-load marathons, so we came really close to limiting out.

The fishing wasn’t quite as hot as last weekend, but was steady for most of the day. Out of 8 stops, 3 were duds, and 5 were solid. Again, I personally fished with bait and jig throughout he day, and did very well both ways.

The weather held nicely for us, and we only saw a little rain at the end of the day. All in all, exactly what we were hoping for on the first 12 hour trip of the year.

Unfortunately Friday’s and Sunday’s trips were canceled due to high wind and seas.  The upcoming weekend is looking beautiful and trips are filling up fast.  Still have our great Spring Special through Monday, Memorial Day.  For reservations give us a call at 978 559 1978.
